Thank you to everyone who answered our survey questions. The feedback we received was very beneficial and got us thinking about more than how we send emails. Hopefully you will see some changes as we move forward. And as always - we love hearing your feedback, so please don't hesitate to e-mail us, even if its just to say hello. We really do cherish you all.

Developing Gods Good Intentions in a Community.

If you've been following us for the last month or so, you have been catching snippets of the various activities we've been up to while here in YWAM Kona.

What we haven’t talked about all too much, is the long term why we are here.

At the core of our families mission is a deep desire to develop God’s good intentions for any community that we find ourselves a part of. We firmly believe that much of the brokenness we see in the world today stems primarily from four broken relationships; First and foremost is a broken relationship with God. The other three are broken relationships with ourselves, others, and the rest of creation.

In restoring these four relationships we typically see resilient and healthy communities begin to emerge. In some respect, community development is about making financial and infrastructural investments, but it's more than throwing money towards a problem. Long term, sustainable community development is about developing the culture of the Kingdom by restoring relationships and coming up with long-term strategies for community empowerment.

In subsequent newsletters, this section will be dedicated to talking about what we are doing in our local ministries, how we are involved in campus activities, and how we are preparing for what’s next. Greg will be writing more content regarding community development and why it matters for anyone working locally or internationally.

This future content will focus heavily on the book When Helping Hurts, by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert, so we invite you to track with the blogs, articles, and videos as we share freely all that we are learning.

In the mean time, we will leave you with this video which humorously demonstrates what often happens in community development/missionary work.

BECOME A SUPPORTER

Pursuing the Great Commission is an amazing journey and we are wholly dedicated to it. We've left our jobs, sold our home and sold pretty much everything we own in response to Jesus' command to "Go."

Make no mistake, we love the nitty-gritty work of going to the nations, but it has it's costs. We need faithful partners for prayer and financial support. Please consider becoming a one time or a monthly supporter of our missionary work. All donations are tax deductible, and every dollar is truly life changing.

Parenting can be rough... Good thing God is Good.

If you're a parent then you know that some weeks are better than others. It is no exception when you're a missionary. In fact people often believe that missionary families have it all together - and let us tell ya, that is not the case. We have our triumphs and our failures like everyone else.

Learning to see how God uses our kids to make us more Christlike, though, is a game changer. Caroline offers a look back on a rough week with our son.

-- PRAYER NEEDS

You guys rock.

Your words of encouragement, prayers and financial support have really given us courage to keep going. You all make a big difference in our lives. So thank you.

Our current prayer needs are:

  • Wisdom for what local ministries to get involved in. We have some great options here on the Island, and we'd love for more open doors to our local community.

  • Pray for the Panama planning team. The Panama project we mentioned in our last e-mail is still under works. Pray that they get the team they need and the vision for how to move forward

  • Finances. We continue to build our financial support team to allow us to do more while here on the Island, and hopefully so that we can do more in the future in other parts of the world. Please pray that monthly supporters are moved to partner with us.

Looking back over this wonderful season.

Normally our Fresh Finds have been things that we think are cool, even if they are unrelated to ministry. But this time we're sharing a video that looks back over the last 6 weeks at the farm.

CONTENT WARNING: If you are vegetarian, or don't want to see a dead pig or chicken, please do not watch. Part of our course has included animal harvesting from the Farm. The content isn't disrespectful, or show the killing of an animal, but all the same, we want to give you a heads up in case you are sensitive to the subject matter.
